Frequently Asked Questions

Where do you source the flies in your fly shop?

Unlike many shops these days that take advantage of offshoring supply, or purchase through big box sellers, all our flies are custom tied by us.

We feel doing this provides a higher standard of quality and allows us to customize certain patterns to reflect the local aquatic life, which in turn provides better imitations and more hookups.

Additionally, where possible, we source our fur and feathers from local Maine providers or independent regional businesses.

What's included in a trip?

Trip inclusions vary by length, details of which you can find on our Booking Page.

Standard 6 hour walk and wade trips include:

  • 1 Maine Registered Guide
  • 1 Guide's Assistant/Photographer
  • Full day 'Trip and Trophy' photography with digital image downloads
  • River-specific complimentary fly box with the day's most successful flies (one per booking)
  • Rods & Reels provided with optional "Top Shelf" rental ($125 for Winston/Bauer combo)
  • In depth discovery call (video call, or over drinks) - to learn your goals, understand your skill level, and game plan the waters

We are not currently offering float/drift trips, but are planning to for a few select rivers in late-2026.

Can I use my own gear?

Of course! We just recommend you let us know what you plan to bring so that we can make sure you aren't forgetting anything. We want you to feel comfortable and to get the most out of your experience, and a tried-and-true kit can go a long way.

If you do want to rent some gear though, we can do that too! Rods/reels and flies are included if needed. Waders are not currently included for every trip. If you can't bring your own, please reach out to us.

What client restrictions or disclaimers do you have in place?

Due to insurance requirements and liability, we:

  • take extra precautions (waivers) with pregnant clients
  • do NOT allow clients to possess firearms on any of our guided trips
  • do NOT provide food to clients (due to allergy and contamination risk)
  • do NOT provide transportation to or between fishing locations
  • require that all medical conditions be disclosed prior to booking

Do you charge travel fees?

We do not.

Including the locations specified on our New England Waters page, we guide on any water in our New England market, including Vermont, Maine, and Massachusetts (and soon New Hampshire!).

Trip pricing is all inclusive, meaning that no matter what water you'd like to fish (from Aroostook to Lake Champlain's tribs to the Swift River), the price you see is what you pay.

How do we book a trip with you?

We offer instant booking via our Google Calendar here. Just pick a trip, select a date and time, and we'll receive a notification with your preferences and information. Then, within 48 hours, we'll follow up with a call/email to learn more about your experience, put together a trip plan, take a 25% booking fee to hold your date (the rest is due day of), and have you sign our waivers.

Depending on how far ahead you schedule, we'll check in intermittently to answer any questions and help vet any gear you plan to bring, with a final call/checkin a couple days before the trip.

Then it's just a matter of hitting the river and trusting your hook set!
